Ukdiche Modak is a traditional Maharashtrian delicacy prepared especially during Ganesh Chaturthi, known for its soft outer layer and rich coconut-jaggery filling. Made with fragrant ghee, freshly grated coconut, natural coconut jaggery, and a hint of cardamom, these modaks offer a perfect balance of sweetness and aroma. Steamed to perfection, the filling turns golden and melts beautifully inside the moulded dough. Finished with a drizzle of warm ghee and delicate saffron strands, Ukdiche Modak is best enjoyed fresh, making it a soulful festive treat that celebrates authentic flavours and timeless tradition.
Ingredients

1 tbsp Ghee

100g Grated Coconut

2-3 tbsp Coconut Jaggery

1⁄4 tsp Cardamom Powder

1 tbsp Ghee (for garnish)

8-10 Saffron Strands
Directions
In a kadai, heat the ghee on a low flame, till melted.
Add in the grated coconut, Coconut Jaggery and cardamom powder.
Mix well, and cook until the mixture turns golden brown, and the Jaggery has melted.
Set the mixture aside to cool for 10-15 minutes.
Once slightly cooled add the mixture to the dough in the oiled mould, and seal well.
Release from the mould, and place onto a serving plate.
Pour the melted ghee over the Modak, garnish with the saffron strands, and serve immediately.
