The Traditional Taste of Til
Gingelly Oil, or Til Oil, has a special place in Indian kitchens. It is valued not just as a cooking oil, but for the unmistakable sesame aroma and flavour it brings to a dish.
Urban Platter Cold Pressed Gingelly Oil is made from sesame seeds and extracted to retain the characteristic personality of the ingredient. It is especially at home in South Indian cooking — drizzled over idli podi, used for dosa, mixed into rice dishes, added to a tempering or used in traditional pickling.
One of the interesting parts of its traditional extraction is the addition of a small quantity of jaggery during the pressing process, as part of the traditional method used to help with oil extraction.
At Urban Platter, we believe a good oil starts well before it reaches the bottle. We work with carefully selected sources and ingredients, evaluating them for quality and suitability before bringing them into our range.
- The Real Character Of Til: A distinctly aromatic sesame oil with the nutty, savoury character that gingelly oil is loved for — especially in traditional Indian cooking.
- Traditional Extraction, Modern Bottle: Cold pressed from sesame seeds, with the traditional process including the addition of a small quantity of jaggery during extraction.
- Made For Indian Flavours: A natural match for idli podi, dosa, rice dishes, tempering, chutneys and traditional pickles, not just another neutral cooking oil.
- Unrefined & Full Of Character: Retains the characteristic flavour and aroma of sesame rather than being positioned as a completely neutral oil.
- Selected By Urban Platter: We work with carefully selected sources and raw materials, looking for the quality, flavour and consistency we want across our speciality food range.
